Chris Kohler has covered financial markets, the economy and Australian housing since 2012. As 9News Finance Editor, Chris spearheads coverage of household financial issues, banking, superannuation, sharemarkets and interest rates, among other topics.
You'll see Chris each weeknight and across each state and territory covering key financial matters for the nightly news, and explaining complex economic issues on social media, where he has more than half a million combined followers across Instagram, TikTok and YouTube.
Prior to joining the Nine Network as Finance Editor, Chris hosted Your Money Live, hosted at Sky News Business, was chief business reporter at Sky News, and hosted the property series Your Domain on Channel Nine with Shelley Craft.
Before entering the TV industry, Chris worked as the Business Editor at Domain, covering macroeconomic impacts on the property markets, and spent several years as a financial markets reporter at The Australian newspaper. He holds a Master's Degree in both journalism and International Relations from Monash University in Melbourne.
Chris was born and raised in Melbourne but lived and worked in Sydney for several years. He now lives in Melbourne with his wife Susannah and son John. In his spare time he enjoys fishing, woodworking and playing and watching cricket and footy (he's a Bombers fan).
When asked for his advice to young people facing a seemingly impenetrable property market, Chris says: "Be engaged in the property conversation even if you feel a long way off. Read everything you can about market signals and government programs. Find people whose advice makes sense (and understand how they get paid to give it). Save whatever you can and make sure you're getting the best rate of return possible. Call your bank and hassle them for a better deposit rate it'll end up making a big difference."
